Selecting the Right Products and Posting Videos
When I started my TikTok Shop, I already had a couple of products listed on the marketplace that I was using on a daily basis—magnesium glycinate vitamin supplements and wild yam cream, so I didn't have to purchase anything or request any samples right away. I feel like, if you can do this, it's is the best way to start. When you are making content for something that you are already using, you come across more authentic and natural in your videos even if you feel like you have no idea what you are doing! Trust me. It will feel UN-natural and you will probably feel the ick about making content...like WTF am I doing? No one will notice but you, so relax and have fun with it! The more YOU you are, the better you will be received.
If you don't have anything around the house to promote, I recommend buying an item as opposed to requesting a free sample. Since you are brand new you probably won't get approved, but it never hurts to try. Pick a product that you will actually use, that is trending, one that has a lot of sales and one that has a good seller score, I'd say like 4.4 and above. Think about how you shop for products, you always go for the one with the most stars out of five and the most good reviews—same rules apply for TikTok Shop. Beware—people will start reaching out to you, wanting to give you freebies, but pay attention to their number of items sold, sometimes it's zero! Even if they are offering a large commission, I wouldn't do it.
You can make as many videos about the same product as you want. Go check out my early videos—all faceless, all about the wild yam cream! Most of my sales still come from three of those original videos (despite having made over 230 videos to date), and I really had no idea what I was doing. I had to script everything because I would just draw a blank, and dead air is something you do not want, people will scroll away. Something else you do not want to do, ever, is use the same video twice. Don't even use parts of an old video. Every single video you make must be brand new to be considered "original content." I even stopped using Capcut templates because one of my videos got flagged for unoriginal content and was not recommended for the FYF (for you feed, it's feed now not page, btw).
Post good, quality content at least three times a day in the beginning. You will have a better chance of TikTok pushing your videos out and maybe one will go viral! I wish you all the best of luck. Have fun with it and if you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments.
Y'all be well! 😊
